Arka arkaya açılan özel radyo ve televizyon kanallarının da yardımıyla pop kültürü emsalsiz bir yükselişe geçer. Seçim kampanyalarında kullanılmaya başlanan Türkçe pop hit’leri sokak ve meydanları doldurur. 12 Eylül darbesinin ağırlığının dağılması ve 1989’da Demir Perde’nin yıkılmasının ardından Türkiye yeni bir kültürel ve ekonomik dolaşım hattına yerleşir. Performans, dünyanın başka yerlerinde olduğu gibi burada da, zamanı yansıtan ifade biçimlerini arayan sanatçılara sınırları belirli disiplin(ler)den bir çıkış ya da kaçış yolu sunar. Her ne kadar tanımları muğlak olsa da performans, doğası gereği itaatkârlık ve tutuculuktan uzak, deneysel ve dolaysız bir sanat pratiğine işaret eder. Even so, the decade’s legacy is not limited to these dark events; the ground for the struggles for rights that would thrive in the 2000s was set in the 90s. Pop culture enjoyed an unprecedented rise with the help of private television and music channels opening one after the other. Election campaigns started to use Turkish pop hits that filled the streets and public squares. After the burden of the 1980 Turkish coup d’état dissipated and with the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989, Turkey settled on a new line of cultural and economic circulation. Meanwhile, in the backdrop, a period of dynamism that contrasts with this darkness began in Istanbul, where the boundaries of freedom were constantly being expanded in the fields of culture, art, performance and entertainment.</span><br style="background-color: white; color: #0c0c0c; font-family: BentonSans, Georgia, Times; font-size: 20px;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #0c0c0c; font-family: BentonSans, Georgia, Times; font-size: 20px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #0c0c0c; font-family: BentonSans, Georgia, Times; font-size: 20px;">The 1990s was also a time when the concept of “interdisciplinary” came to the fore in Turkey’s art scene. Here, as in every corner of the world, the medium of performance offered artists looking for contemporary forms of expression a way out or escape from discipline(s) with defined boundaries. As ambiguous as its definitions are, performance, by its nature, notes an artistic practice that is experimental and immediate, far from obedient and conservative. The tie between the stage and performance, on the other hand, relies on a mutual dependence: as the stage opens towards life, the performance widens its horizon, and as performance expands into new mediums the stage exceeds art. Gathered under the same canopy of investigation are photographs, objects, video recordings, sketches, and mock-ups in addition to correspondences, posters, and brochures from select events. Featuring a variety of production styles ranging from live performances to video clips and TV programs, the exhibition spans the years from 1988 to 1999 and extends into the early 2000s. It traces the intersection of a diverse range of performances that gained an increasing visibility in parks, bars, historical landmarks, abandoned sites, and off-the-beaten path, exploring unexpected connections that contribute to a broader understanding of the “stage”. WHERE THE WORLD IS MADE More than 140 artists and over 200 works to compose the multicultural, polyglot, colorful, scary, stimulating, deafening story of the streets of the whole world, the real great laboratory for discussion, creation, comparison, where the contemporary era is invented 7 December 2018 - 28 April 2019 www.maxxi.art | #TheStreetAtMAXXI Rome. 6 December 2018. They took to the streets with invasions, surprises, disturbances, break-ins, rebellions; they have involved people, communities, have offered new points of view. Starting in the 1960s, it was the artists who believed that the road was the modern intellectual, social and political battlefield. From the 7th of December 2018 to the 28th of April 2019, MAXXI dedicates to them all, but also to architects, urban planners, and designers, The STREET. Where the world is made. The exhibit is curated by Hou Hanru together with the curatorial and research teams of the museum and transforms MAXXI into an intense and somewhat chaotic street scene. More than 200 works from more than 140 artists to describe a space that is not only a fundamental manmade infrastructure, but a place crossed by multiple meanings, sometimes victim of visual and physical bombardment - signs, advertising, surveillance cameras, garbage – a place where shared practices and new technologies are experimented, and a showcase of projects stemming from the needs of the communities. The main partner is Enel, the Fondazione MAXXI’s first private partner, which has chosen to support this exhibition in particular due to its extraordinary cultural and research value, offering free admittance to a programme of seminars with architects, journalist, philosophers and artists. With THE STREET, MAXXI becomes a street-museum, capable of combining works, actions, events and artistic, architectural, urban and technological research, conceived by an international creative community, expanding the study already conducted in 2017 for the Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture of Shenzhen with which the MAXXI team collaborated, on the most outstanding artistic experiences, that have reinterpreted the functions and identities of the street from the last two decades. The museum becomes a spokesperson for a reflection on the future of urban life and civil society, and on the function of artistic and cultural institutions. Site-specific projects, performance, and transdisciplinary events are part of an exhibition organised based on themes - public actions, daily life, politics, the community, innovation, the role of the institution - fundamental for understanding the new functions and identity of the modern-day street. Starting from the belief that this space is the place where the world is created, it is analysed as a manifesto of contemporary life, a scenario, and a privileged point of view, a landscape in which the creative community and citizens give life to a new community and a new world of urban creativity. STREET POLITICS (Resistance, Protest, Occupy, Manifest, Feminism and the Carnivalesque, etc.) is the main theme of the first part of the exhibition in which the street is described not only as a place of celebration and parties, but also a space in which a voice is given to social tensions, an arena of protest and resistance to control by power. A large wall will show works such as those by Andrea Bowers composed of drawings and anti-racial protest print covers, the large canvas Tutto il resto è noia by Andrea Salvino whose research is often dedicated to the dark and violent sides of recent Italian history; the feminist collages of Marinella Senatore who has made city parades one of the typical traits of her research, Demonstration Drawings by Rirkrit Tiravanija and The Devil You Know a five-pointed star composed of flashing police cars of Kendell Geers, an artist who has dedicated all of his work to political and social protests since the 1980s. On the other hand, Yang Jiechang and Pak Sheung-Chuen demonstrate memories and reflection on the 1989 event of Tiananmen and the Umbrella Movement for democracy in Hong Kong four years ago; and also Sam Durant that, with Proposal for Public Fountain, offers a possibility to reflect upon sociopolitical and cultural issues of the American history by intepreting in a very personal manner the notion of public monument, whereas Moe Sat, with cuts made on the silk of tipical Burmese umbrellas which are part of his work Parasol Alternative, creates a metaphor for the unstable condition of the people from Myanmar. A fundamental role in the entire exhibition is attributed to the medium of video, the channel through which we look at the world today, an ideal vehicle for narration and at the same time a device for creating space, a tool for mapping and re-organizing the urban environment, the primary interface between public and private. Among those related to the theme of protest are Walked The Way Home by Eric Baudelaire, Angry Sandwich People by Chto Delat and O Levante The Uprising by Jonathas de Andrade. The GOOD DESIGN (Innovation, Limitation, and Freedom) nucleus includes works that depict the street as the ideal platform where to experiment with technological innovations related to communication, life, and mobility. The street has shared approaches and knowledge that have made not only a new form of design possible but also new conditions of environmental and social sustainability. The works related to this area include Ciclomóvil by Pedro Reyes and the Velodreams by Patrik Tuttofuoco prototypes for a new form of sustainable city vehicles, and among others videos by Carsten Nicolai future past perfect and Cao Fei RMB City. Related to this theme, we also find Cars by Artists, a giant wall of images that collects the TOP50 artistic reflections on the protagonist of the road: the automobile. Starting with Andy Warhol’s 1979 creation for BMW, this collection includes the versions of 40 international artists of an epochal icon regarding mobility, social status, and imaginary. Olafur Eliasson, Lucy + Jorge Orta, Nam June Paik, Paola Pivi, Erwin Wurm, Sisley Xhafa and many others give us back the mysticism of mobility, the socio-economic critique, the coexistence between technology and do-it-yourself, the irony and the dimension of creativity. COMMUNITY (Immigration, Minorities, Diversity, Love and Living Together) brings together works in which the road is the fundamental node for the development of a shared conscience, the laboratory in which to redefine boundaries and characters of minorities, or - in the light of recent migratory phenomena - rethink the instruments of reception and protection. Here we find works such as the high wall painted by the collective Boa Mistura, explicitly designed for the MAXXI spaces, and typical of their research linked to the communities and liveability of the city spaces, or the "social" benches in the shape of a circle of Jeppe Hein’s Modified Social Benches. Also the videos by Kimsooja, Zhou Tao, Kim Sora, Paradox of Praxis 5 by Francis Alys, and Niagara by Mark Bradford. The street is an essential part of everyday life. It is a place of work, recreation, and food. There are many functions concentrated in this place, and for this reason, it has been the object of creative intervention by artists and architects who have interpreted it as an extension of domestic life. Around the theme EVERYDAY LIFE (Eat, Work and Exchange, Home/Homeless…) rotate not only works that express all of this, but also works that show how life in the street can assume the character of marginalization and social exclusion. One of the works related to this though is MOBESE (Gold Camera) by Halil Altindere, that ironically recalls the control operated by surveillance cameras, Flavio Favelli’s neon signs, which are the result of assemblies that transform the original advertising function, Jimmie Durham’s Streets of Rome, a sculpture made up of materials found on the street and collected. Together with these are the videos by Adel Abdessemed, Francis Alys, Iván Argote, Marcela Armas, Fang Lu, Mark Lewis, and Jill Magid. Around the theme INTERVENTIONS (Walk, Play and Getting lost…) rotates the video works of more than 30 artists including Allora & Calzadilla, Cao Fei, Martin Creed, Jean-Baptiste Ganne, the collective Ha Za Vu Zu, David Hammons, and many others; works that show how thanks to the experience of artists of the 1960s and 1970s, modern artists have considered the street as a privileged context where to experiment more ordinary and more complex actions, and investigate the sensation of loss inherent to the urban dimension. The New Pompidou project video by Simon Fujiwara and Work in Public Space by Thomas Hirschhorn, The Road Show by Chim↑Pom and Riding Modern Art by Raphaël Zarka give voice to THE OPEN INSTITUTIONS (Street As Museum, Museum as Street) or how the museum has adopted characteristics of the street, bringing within it experiences, works and research conceived for the urban space. In parallel, the museum itself has become a street, losing in part its identification as a place of protection of a common heritage, because today it is proposed as a sharing place, in which events alternate and events take place. The MAXXI is designed as an urban connector, the ideal place where to experiment and implement this new type of open institution. The last theme with which the exhibit deals with is MAPPING (Planned / Unplanned, Built / Unbuilt), which highlights the common characteristics between contemporary artistic research and architectural - urban planning, today characterized by vertical projects, elevations, underpasses, futuristic or utopian crossings, often in contrast with the built space and the urban utopia of the road as an authorizing element. Unavoidable, this theme is also related to the issue of the flow of humans and goods that in the street find one of the most obvious problems. Among the works related to these themes are Free Post Mersey Tunnel an untidy structure composed of metal pipes by Rosa Barba, or In extremis (Fragments of Death) the asphalt floor studded with camouflage forms of cats run-over by cars buried in the highways by Zhao Zhao as well as the videos by Daniel Crooks, Map Office, and Zhu Jia. Two timelines accompany the exhibition path giving the opportunity to look at the street from a historical point of view, further explore the theme: RETHINKING THE CITY which tells its evolution from an architectural and urban point of view, an itinerary that, from the late 19th century, arrives at post-modernist visions that includes, among others, historical images, the Piano per Algeri by Le Corbusier, images from Las Vegas Studio (1966-71) from the archive of Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown, the Sistema disequilibrante by Ugo La Pietra and No-Stop City (1970-1974) by Archizoom. Instead dedicated to artistic research from the sixties to the nineties of the twentieth century, the crucial period for the formation of the current vision is the timeline STORIES OF THE STREET in which documentary materials become a series of comic stories created for the occasion by Liu Qingyuan, all dedicated to the emblematic events of some of the protagonists of these practices including Vito Acconci and Daniel Buren. A video review accompanies the exhibition in the museum’s video gallery and a cycle of talks, also provides a series of artistic interventions outside the museum and a calendar of performances commissioned for the occasion, all with free admission. A specific site work by Barbara Kruger and the works Ai nati oggi by Alberto Garutti, Untitled (Green Woman on the Traffic Light) by Anna Scalfi, Don’t Miss a Sec’. by Monica Bonvicini and Chiaroscuro by Alfredo Jaar are added to Liu Qingyuan’s newly produced images like woodblock prints, that recounts a narrative of historical artistic interventions in the global art history from 1960 to 2000.The performances will be held for the entire duration of the exhibit from 7 December 2018 to 14 April 2019. Jeremy Deller starts on 7, 8 and 9 December with How to Leave Facebook in which thousands of posters/flyers will be distributed in various areas of Rome, from the Testaccio market to the Colonna Gallery explaining how to protect the privacy on Facebook profile. In March, Lin Yilin presents the new performance The back (working title) designed for the exhibit, while in April the group OHT presents Little Fun Palace, a caravan that will occupy the streets of the Quarticciolo and Tor Tre Testa neighbourhoods, hosting meetings and debates open to the public. The exhibit is accompanied by a catalogue-book edited by Hou Hanru and the MAXXI curatorial and research team, published by Quodlibet, a mini-encyclopaedia that explores the subject of the street, with Book 1 designed as an introductory manual and anthology, and Book 2 composed as “visual” books dedicated to the seven themes addressed by the exhibition. <span style="color: #333333; font-size: 14pt;"> This performance </span><span style="color: #333333; font-size: 18.6667px;">series named </span><span style="color: #333333; font-size: 14pt; font-style: italic;">cut the flow </span><span style="color: #333333; font-size: 14pt; text-indent: 0pt;">was planned to be interactive with the audience, it is a simple and short performance that everybody can participate in. In the city centre on a main street, preferably one that is only open to pedestrian traffic, the participants stand next to each other and block the road for a given time. First, the invitation that announces the hour and location of the event is sent out to participants via email. When the participants get together, the destination, the road to be blocked and the movements are explained. Then everybody sets off together. We did the performance for the first time in İstiklal Caddesi in Istanbul 2007, then we did it in Rotterdam, Lyon , Plovdiv, Prishtina, Athens etc . Each time with new participants, we encountered new reactions and found new approaches. For instance, in Istanbul it was a challenge to walk as a crowd of people within the already crowded Taksim; but in the empty streets of Rotterdam, we stopped a couple of motorcycles and an old lady, for example. In Lyon, we were faced with a rather different situation, people on the street were irritated and they were impatiently trying to take back their right to move along. These 8 different performances in different countries became a gauge through which we experienced the different identities and chemistries of the eight different geographies. Every time we met different synergies and reactions, and realised that as long as we would continue the project it would always have this characteristic.</span></div>

As daily life's flow changed our perception of the space, the human relationship with the built environment was transformed – and, at times deformed. Following fierce arguments on social space and the right to the city, it is argued that urban space hacked, opening up novel ways of producing space. Yet, in the connected world of today, with the ubiquitousness of many services and a lesser obligation for the labour to stay in the cities, a multi-dimensional conversation is needed to understand the new urban. While some cities develop more democratic platforms that allow all the different voices to be heard; for some other cities, the lack of participation causes more alternative searches. This leads to different situations in terms of possibilities and impossibilities rather than a better or worse condition. And on extreme dystopic circumstances, lies the complete destruction of the urban memory/space, as in various cities around the world, the power struggle readily reflects on to the built environment, with the State encouraging the erasing/eradicating/<wbr></wbr>scratching/straining of the space and even re-inventing of the memories. This session wants to initiate a broad dialogue followed by an open-format forum with on the struggle to reclaim the city, physically or mnemonically, ranging from the artworks as part of our urban memory or getting our right of way on the metropolitan pavements.</div>

Günlük yaşamın akışı mekân algımızı değiştirdikçe, yapılı çevre ile insan ilişkileri de değişti ve zaman içerisinde deforme oldu. Toplumsal alan ve kent hakkı konusunda şiddetli tartışmaların ardından, kentsel mekanın "hack"lenebilecek, özgün mekan üretme yolları açabilecek bir yer olup olmadığı tartışılmakta. Yine de, bugünün ağlar dünyasında, çogu hizmetin her yerde alınabilmesi ve iş gücünün şehirde olma zorunluluğunun giderek azalmasıyla, yeni kenti anlamak için çok boyutlu bir konuşmaya ihtiyaç var. Bazı şehirler, farklı seslerin duyulmasına izin veren daha demokratik platformlar geliştirirken; bazıları için katılım eksikliği başka alternatif arayışlara yol açıyor. Bu durum, daha iyi veya daha kötü değil, olasılıklar ve imkansızlıklar açısından farklı durumları doğuruyor. Dünyanın çeşitli şehirlerindeki aşırı distopik koşullarda kentsel hafıza/mekan tamamen tahribata uğruyor; güç mücadelesi fiziksel çevreye yansıyor; devlet, mekanın silinmesini/ortadan kaldırılmasını/kazınmasını/<wbr></wbr>sünmesini teşvik ediyor ve hatta anıları yeniden icat ediyor. Bu oturum, kent hafızasının bir parçası olarak sanat işlerinden, metropolün kaldırımlarında alınan yollara uzanan bir çeşitlilikte, fiziksel ya da anımsatıcı bir şekilde kenti geri kazanma mücadelelerini açık bir formatta tartışmayı amaçlayan bir forum olarak gerçekleşecektir.</div>

Young Identity (YI) is a spoken word collective formed in Manchester, 2006 by Shirley May and Ali Gadema. YI is dedicated to giving young people opportunities to perform their written work and have worked with artists such as Lemn Sissay, international spoken word icon Saul Williams, dub poetry legend Linton Kwesi Johnson, Ted Hughes Prize Winner Kate Tempest, and the late Amiri Baraka. YI have performed all over the UK, from the Southbank in London to the West Yorkshire Playhouse and even in America’s Nuyorican Poetry Café.</div>

Ha Zu Vu Zu is an artist collective based in Istanbul. The collective acts with an absence of hierarchy to encourage the unpredictable within sound and vision. Ha Za Vu Zu sees itself as a hub of abundant collaboration and exchange of ideas. The groups work lies somewhere between performance and agitprop, humour and the organisation of offbeat evenings. The form is variable, spanning performance, installation, videos and objects (from books, flags and banners to mutated disco balls and assorted ephemera).</div>

<strong style="box-sizing: border-box;">Undisciplinary Learning takes the novel The Aesthetic of Resistance by Peter Weiss</strong>(1916-1982) as an impetus to question current knowledge politics at the intersection of artistic, political, and pedagogical practices. In the exhibition, urban interventions, encounters and conversations, education is probed as a mode of political imagination that recognizes heterogeneous forms of knowledge and integrates the body, the city, relationships, and the environment as places of <strong style="box-sizing: border-box;">learning</strong>. <strong style="box-sizing: border-box;">Undisciplinary Learning thereby maps artistic approaches focusing on self</strong>-empowering pedagogies – especially from feminist, queer, leftist and decolonial contexts – that radically question hegemonic cultures of knowledge.</div>

<span style="background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 17.9200000762939px;">Taking David Thomas’ lecture “The Geography of Sound” as a departure point, this exhibition project brings together artists from eight different countries: Éva Bodnár, Nuria Fuster, Ha Za Vu Zu, Nicolas Jasmin, Santiago Morilla, O, Bernhard Rappold, Franz Schubert, Felipe Talo, Carlos Vasconcelos, Brent Wadden, Felix Leon Westner, Das Wiener Jazzpanoptikum (Pils, Pulsinger, Zykan), and others.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 17.9200000762939px;">All of </span><span class="text_exposed_show" style="background-color: white; color: #141823; display: inline; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 17.9200000762939px;">them investigate sound and music in their work, however the approaches are different. On the one side are fine arts, popular music on the other. Not by chance, it was the art-affine David Thomas, singer of the band “Pere Ubu”, which he classifies as avant-garage, who triggered the idea behind the concept. In his aforementioned wonderfully erratic lecture, he skilfully draws a line from Thomas Alva Edison’s first phonographic recording to Elvis. He specially emphasises the stylistic finesse Edison demonstrated when choosing the words for the first sound recording in history. He spoke “Mary had a little lamb” into the horn. A children’s rhyme already popular in 1876, at the time of the recording. Edison could have easily recited something meaningful, an aphorism, for example. But he decided for the mundane, the everyday.<br />Furthermore, Neil Armstrong is identified as Edison’s disparate twin. Also he had his grand moment in the history of sound recording. According to David Thomas, he thoroughly messed it up. His “That’s one small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind!” during the moon landing in 1969 sounded pompous, but also clumsy, memorised, and melodramatic in its metaphor.<br />“Big events are best heralded with small words,” concludes Thomas.<br />Time and again, the artistic practice offers – for example, at the beginning of a work (not to mention the quirky fear of the white canvas) or moreover in its titling – moments of pathos and grand gesture, the “Armstrong trap”.<br />However, the solution does not reside in establishing a style of skilful failure. After all, knowing that one can undoubtedly also provoke “big events” should imply to indeed highly value the things one is working on. The reservoir from which both artistic greatness and ease draw from is often the realm of “small words”. Failure can still ensue later on.<br /><br />In this sense, Edison’s self-ironic saying “I have not failed – I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work” inspired the selection of artistic personalities. For all of them experimenting, discarding, hence constant perfecting is the key.<br /><br />Éva Bodnár, inventor and proponent of Happy Anfang, pursues in her paintings a porous approach to film, music, and language. Brent Wadden favours the weaving loom as an instrument of analytical slowness. Carlos Vasconcelos’ objects and videos seem to have been forged in an alchemic workshop, steeped in the search for purification and punctuated by the roughness of noise. Ha Za Vu Zu are devoted to passionate and performative irony. Bernhard Rappold turns lapsteel guitars into a visual object. Nicolas Jasmin presents painting von Time to Zeit. Das Wiener Jazzpanoptikum usually attends to DJing on Thursdays and during the exhibition to painting home organs. Franz Schubert shows a silent video interpretation of Gerhard Richter’s Sonic Youth record cover.<br />In his video Rem Verso Santiago Morilla mimes the artistic Francis of Assisi and holds a graphic dialogue with trees, rats, and birds. On the harbour of a Chinese metropolis one can follow Felipe Talo’s video attempt to generate a magic triangle between a trumpet player, a signalling freight steamboat, and his own chalk drawing. Teresa Rotschopf alias O shows her new music video 2410. Felix Leon Westner performs between vocals and mural drawing, between diagram and loop, thereby digging into the brittle and fragile nature of pop. In her installations and sculptures the trained dancer Nuria Fuster works with the remnants of our society. Ha Zu Vu Zu is an artist collective based in Istanbul. The collective acts with an absence or switch of hierarchy to encourage the unpredictable within sound and vision. Ha Za Vu Zu sees itself as a hub of abundant collaboration and exchange of ideas. The groups work lies somewhere between performance and agitprop, humour and the organisation of offbeat evenings. The form is variable, spanning performance, installation, videos and objects (from books, flags and banners to mutated disco balls and assorted ephemera).<br />
<br />
Ha Za Vu Zu takes part in Hotel Charleroi with a vocalizing performance which is based on making simple vocals as a choir in the range of language to sound for the video on a big screen. The video is made of images that are captured from tv and internet in relation to everyday life dynamics, urbanism, public movements and soon. The performance is realized with the participants.<br />

After the colossal Palais des Expositions in 2012 and the suburb town of Marchienne in 2013, <strong style="outline-style: none;">HOTEL CHARLEROI</strong> settles in Ville Basse, an area that experiences heavy transformations since a couple of years. The present state of Ville Basse -a field of rubble- offers an ideal point of departure for new reflections about Charleroi, its challenges and possibilities.<br />

From 14th till 16th November 2014, the public from Charleroi and elsewhere will be at the centre of LA FORCE DU CHANGEMENT: a dense program including performances, discussions, workshops and interventions proposed by over thirty contemporary artists and collectives for Charleroi.<br />

The energy gathered during the weekend will take shape in the collective construction of a tower on the site of the future shopping mall Rive Gauche. An ephemeral sign for and from the inhabitants of Charleroi, defying the ravaged area, the city and the weather.</div>

It will be held across 3 floors of the complex, inhabiting five central halls, a metro level mezanine, and the public outdoor park. The exhibition will span over 80,000 square feet and will feature newly commissioned presentations by all 46 artists and collectives during an intensive three month residency period in Istanbul.<br /><br />Over the past 3 months The Moving Museum saw 35 international artists join 11 local artists in Istanbul in a period of intensive research, production, and public engagement, and each artist was commissioned to engage in a major new work during their time in the city. The artists represents a generation of practitioners working seamlessly across disciplines and borders, displacing aesthetics and redefining best practices against a backdrop of constant change. The exhibition serves to articulate these approaches through the locus of Istanbul, a city echoing this artistic flux, and whose questions and promises embody a microcosm of compatible concernes.</span></div>
